Lucy and Josiah Burnett built their home in 1860 adjacent to the property of Philip Foster, Lucy’s father. The Burnetts owned the house until 1880 and raised 5 children there. Over the years, the house changed hands and shape several times. The house was placed on Restore Oregon’s 2011 list of the “10 Most Endangered Structures.” In 2016 JZH voted to save the house by stripping it of all its non-original additions, moving the home across the highway to the Philip Foster Farm Historic Site and restoring it to its original 1860’s condition. The move is complete, and the restoration project has begun.

Here’s a quick list of the exciting events on our horizon:
April 10th Annual Meeting, including a presentation on the Willamette Falls Heritage Area from 7pm – 8pm at the Estacada Library. Hear about the exciting new developments at the Farm site with the addition of the Lucy House. We’ll also be joined by Siobahn Taylor, Executive Director and Alice Norris of the Willamette Falls Heritage Area who have a presentation about the status of the heritage area and our connection to it.
May 6th – Farm opens on Saturdays. Come get a whiff of the lilac and look around.
May 20th 2:00-5:00 p.m. Lucy House Debut. Fundraising event. Stay tuned for details.
June 17th – Opening Day.
June 26th – Summer camp begins for ages 7-12.

Since our parking lot moved, Google has struggled to locate us, torn between our address on Highway 211 and our entrance on Eagle Creek Road. At last this problem has been resolved! Watch for changes to our website, brochures, etc.
The Philip Foster Farm closes down for the winter, but we’re still busy! Keep reading for updates on building projects, archives, and school activities.
Lucy House – Lucy Foster Burnett’s great-grandson, Tom, continues to renovate her house, recently moved across the street to join our historic site. So many discoveries are being made! Where were the chimneys? What was the wallpaper? What color was the paint? As the house is taken back to its original form, we are finding lots of “easter eggs” hidden in its walls and closets. The house will be re-sided and shored up for visitors, to support authentic living history in this restored 1860 home.
Archives and Collections – Staff and volunteers are sorting, cataloging, and storing artifacts and documents. One day we hope to have a searchable collection online, so anyone researching Oregon Trail emigrants can find the traces they left behind, and come visit us to follow in their footsteps.
Trails Across Time – Students come down occasionally to work at the Farm, but will spend most of the winter in their Eagle Creek classroom. This year 1 middle and high school scholars are studying the Civil War, Current Events, and Oregon History. Contact teacher Elaine Butler at ebutler@summitLC.org if you’d wish to join them in some Oregon History field trips.

Always on the last Saturday of September, our annual Cider Squeeze is loads of fun for the whole family. Bring your own apples, or squeeze ours for the freshest cider anywhere! The event begins at 10:00 a.m. and wraps up at 4:00. To reduce waiting times for everyone, we limit squeezing to 2 gallons per family on Saturday, but invite you to come back on Sunday for our bulk squeeze.
What’s the difference between Saturday and Sunday? Saturday will be our full event, with buildings and activities available, vendors, food, and music. Admission is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Buy a gallon of (pasteurized) cider or make your own fresh stuff for the same price ($7.00). Bring your own apples and jugs for a discount.
Sunday is set aside for serious apple-squeezers. No admission is charged. Just pay by the gallon for the cider you squeeze. We’ll be open from 2:00 to 6:00.
Wouldn’t it be nice if pioneer houses and barns were air conditioned? Yes, yes, it would. But they aren’t, so for the safety of our guests and staff, we will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
We had a wonderful event planned for Saturday, and many people planning to come share local history, genealogy, and family research information. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to provide a safe location for this event, so we are canceling for this year. Please plan to come to our Family History Day in 2017, and KEEP COOL!
And do watch for the Lucy House to move across the street this Sunday morning.
JZH is moving the Lucy House this summer! Philip’s daughter Lucy and her husband, Josiah Burnett, built their home in Eagle Creek in 1860. After 156 years, it will finally be accessible to the public. Learn More.

Our annual meeting will be held July 13th, 2015, at the Estacada Public Library. Arrive early to view our exhibit in the library, including photos and artifacts of Estacada’s founding families. Meeting begins at 7:00 in the Flora Room. We’ll be sharing exciting news about changes in our facilities, and looking for your feedback.
Here at the Philip Foster Farm, we are busy from April through October, hosting children from schools, camps, day cares, and families who want to learn more about Oregon’s pioneers.
But there’s another layer of learning happening, as many of our volunteers are also young people, learning about the past, and discovering their own skillsets for public speaking, professional dress and behavior, and historic authenticity.
Adult volunteers are invited to join the team of tour leaders and teachers who work with these volunteers each week to provide the best possible educational experience for everyone on our Farm.
