Family History Day 8/19/17 1-4:00 p.m.

Combine local historians, researchers, and ice cream sundaes with eager learners on a beautiful historic site, and you get the Family History Day at the Philip Foster Farm on the Oregon Trail. Here in beautiful Eagle Creek, Oregon, we bring together the tools to discover your family’s past. Where did they settle? What route did they take to get here? Whether your pioneer ancestors stopped here, or came later by plane, train, or automobile, we can help you track them down and discover more of your unique story.

Cooking with Fire! June 17, 2017

DSC_0011Authentic history and  camp cooking combine for the perfect day to visit the Philip Foster Farm. Come for a taste, or sign up to demonstrate your cooking skills. Guests can sample and learn from cooks. While you’re here, visit our Rose Ramble, featuring rose bushes collected from local homesteads.

Lucy House Debut May 20, 2017

Lucy and Josiah Burnett built their home in 1860 adjacent to the property of Philip Foster, Lucy’s father. The Burnetts owned the house until 1880 and raised 5 children there. Over the years, the house changed hands and shape several times. The house was placed on Restore Oregon’s 2011 list of the “10 Most Endangered Structures.” In 2016 JZH voted to save the house by stripping it of all its non-original additions, moving the home across the highway to the Philip Foster Farm Historic Site and restoring it to its original 1860’s condition. The move is complete, and the restoration project has begun.

It’s spring, and the Philip Foster Farm is gearing up for an amazing season!

Here’s a quick list of the exciting events on our horizon:

April 10th Annual Meeting, including a presentation on the Willamette Falls Heritage Area from 7pm – 8pm at the Estacada Library. Hear about the exciting new developments at the Farm site with the addition of the Lucy House. We’ll also be joined by Siobahn Taylor, Executive Director and Alice Norris of the Willamette Falls Heritage Area who have a presentation about the status of the heritage area and our connection to it.

May 6th – Farm opens on Saturdays. Come get a whiff of the lilac and look around.

May 20th 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Lucy House Debut. Fundraising event. Stay tuned for details.

June 17th – Opening Day.

June 26th – Summer camp begins for ages 7-12.


2016 Cider Squeeze

Always on the last Saturday of September, our annual Cider Squeeze is loads of fun for the whole family. Bring your own apples, or squeeze ours for the freshest cider anywhere! The event begins at 10:00 a.m. and wraps up at 4:00. To reduce waiting times for everyone, we limit squeezing to 2 gallons per family on Saturday, but invite you to come back on Sunday for our bulk squeeze.

What’s the difference between Saturday and Sunday? Saturday will be our full event, with buildings and activities available, vendors, food, and music. Admission is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Buy a gallon of (pasteurized) cider or make your own fresh stuff for the same price ($7.00). Bring your own apples and jugs for a discount.

Sunday is set aside for serious apple-squeezers. No admission is charged. Just pay by the gallon for the cider you squeeze. We’ll be open from 2:00 to 6:00.

Closed August 18-20th, 2016 due to extreme temperatures

Wouldn’t it be nice if pioneer houses and barns were air conditioned? Yes, yes, it would. But they aren’t, so for the safety of our guests and staff, we will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

We had a wonderful event planned for Saturday, and many people planning to come share local history, genealogy, and family research information. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to provide a safe location for this event, so we are canceling for this year. Please plan to come to our Family History Day in 2017, and KEEP COOL!

And do watch for the Lucy House to move across the street this Sunday morning.

August 2016 is action-packed

IMG_4731Even the buildings are moving at the Foster Farm this month! Come join us for active history throughout the month.

August 2nd and 9th will be one-day living history camps for ages 7-12. Kids can come 9-3:00 to engage in pioneer crafts, games and activities. Cost is $30.00 per day. Please preregister. (2016CampRegB)

August 20th will be our Family History Day, when local organizations send their finest minds to help you root out your family’s personal story. The Farm opens up at 11:00, and the event begins at 1:00. We’ll have free ice cream and fun for everyone!

Burnett-House-circa-1945Just a couple of days later, the Lucy House will be moving! It’s going to join the rest of the Farm buildings on our 5-acre site.  If you see it heading across the street, please be patient. It will eventually open up to the public and extend our capacity to host field trips and meetings. We are soooo excited!

Garden Party Delights July 16, 2106

Philip Foster’s patient wife, Mary Charlotte, may (or may not) have been literate, but she put up with a lot in her lifetime. Traveling with her husband, brother Francis Pettygrove, and 4 children around the Horn was just the beginning of her courageous life as an Oregon Pioneer.

We celebrate her and the many women like her who made Oregon home despite danger, grief, disease, and loss. Come enjoy a Victorian fashion show, live music, tasty treats and a trip through our historic Rose Ramble. Fun for all ages!

Farm is open from 11:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, July 16th, and the party starts at 1:00.

Food and Wine bring History to Life

The Philip Foster Farm opens up for the summer on June 18th, 2016, with camp cooking demonstrations, wine-tasting, live music by the Aspen Meadow Band, and pioneer activities to please the whole family.

The farm will be open 11:00-4:00. Admission is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Come celebrate the start of a very exciting summer season!IMG_4731
